Former President Ronald Reagan died 20 years ago Wednesday, and his life and leadership is being remembered on social media. Reagan, 93, died of pneumonia. He also struggled with Alzheimer’s disease for more than a decade. Elected president in 1980, Reagan served two presidential terms. Before that, he served two terms as governor of California and, in his younger days, he was an actor in Hollywood. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute was among the first to commemorate the anniversary of the 40th president’s death, stating that it is reminiscent of “his optimistic spirit.” The institute previously announced that it is hosting a ceremony at 3:30 p.m. PDT on Wednesday to honor his life and legacy at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. “Today, on the 20th anniversary of the passing of our nation’s 40th president, we are reminded of his optimistic spirit, his unwavering love of America and its people, and his steadfast belief in equality for all,” the statement reads. “We miss you sir.” Those who are unable to attend the ceremony in person can watch it online through the Reagan Library’s live stream of the event. Other users on social media have shared their own statements reminiscing on Reagan’s life and leadership.
