Happy birthday, Aria! Love you! I’m a proud papa. My eldest child has grown into a wonderful young lady. In any case, yesterday was Wordle Wednesday and as I always do on Wednesdays, I gave all you fine folk a riddle to solve. Today I’ll share the answer. This was the riddle: A man is found dead in a room with 53 Bicycles. What happened? The Bicycles were Bicycle playing cards. The man was a gambler and a cheat, since an actual deck of cards has just 52, not 53. Apparently whoever it was that discovered this fact didn’t take too kindly to being swindled. Alright, Wordle time! How To Solve Today’s Wordle The Hint: The upper air. The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter. Okay, spoilers below! . . . I also think it’s a very nice word, and the bird itself is quite majestic. In any case, HERON nabbed me three yellow boxes and I later learned just 13 words remained. I scoured my mind and when SHIRE revealed itself how could I not use it? Wordle Bot later informed me that it was not the very best pick, but I was left with just 1 remaining solution . . . so it was good enough for me! ETHER was the only word remaining. Huzzah! Competitive Wordle Score Today was my revenge on the Wordle Bot who has had a couple wins over me lately. I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for beating the Bot, who took four tries today. 2 points for me! I’m the champion of the universe! Here is a brief overview of its etymology: Ancient Greek: The word “ether” comes from the ancient Greek word “αἰθήρ” (aithēr), which means “upper air,” “pure, fresh air,” or “sky.” In Greek mythology, Aether was the personification of the upper sky, space, and heaven. Latin: The Greek word was borrowed into Latin as “aether,” retaining much of its original meaning related to the upper regions of the atmosphere and the heavens. Old French and Middle English: From Latin, the word made its way into Old French as “ether” and then into Middle English. In these languages, the meaning began to expand slightly, still referring to the upper air but also taking on a more poetic and philosophical sense. Modern English: In modern English, “ether” has come to have several meanings. It can refer to the clear sky or the heavens, a hypothetical medium once thought to fill all space and to support the propagation of electromagnetic waves, and in chemistry, it refers to a class of organic compounds (like diethyl ether, used as an anesthetic). Throughout its history, the word “ether” has maintained a connection to the idea of a pure, lofty substance or region, evolving in its application from mythology and philosophy to science.
