Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has launched a 200KVA solar power infrastruc-ture to provide alternative and cleaner power to some govern-ment offices. The offices linked to alterna-tive power include the Accoun-tant General’s Office, the State In-ternal Revenue Service, the Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau, the Surveyor Gener-al’s Office, the Cross River State Geographic Information Agency, and the College of Health Tech-nology. During the commissioning ceremony at the State Accoun-tant General’s office complex, Governor Otu expressed his sat-isfaction that the state is leverag-ing technology for development and economic growth. He revealed that the Cross River State Portal, as well as various payment portals and applications, were created to improve efficiency and revenue generation. Governor Otu emphasised that the deployment of solar power infrastructure and the restoration of fibre links for in-ternet connectivity demonstrate a commitment to creating an en-vironmentally friendly environ-ment while also advancing tech-nological infrastructure within government offices. He cited the state’s accom-plishments in digital innova-tion, science, and technology as evidence of the Ministry of Science’s hard work, dedication, and commitment. Mrs. Glory Effiong, the State Accountant General, also stated at the commissioning that the technological solutions powered by solar power allow the State to monitor revenue and transac-tions in government accounts in real-time. Dr. Justin Beshel, the State Commissioner for science and technology, elaborated on the state’s accomplishments in digi-tal innovation, science, and tech-nology, which led PRODA to es-tablish its regional office in Cross River State, further solidifying the state’s position as a hub for innovation and technology, hav-ing won the.NG award as the best state in digital innovation, and the overall best in the last Techno EXPO organised by the Federal Ministry of Science, Innovation. These accomplishments, ac-cording to the Commissioner, demonstrate the Ministry of Science and Technology’s clear vision and strategic planning to propel Cross River State to new heights in the digital space and technological advancement.
