Veteran Actor Farida Jalal Opens Up About Past Differences With Filmmaker Karan Johar Veteran Bollywood actor Farida Jalal recently opened up about some past differences she had with renowned filmmaker Karan Johar regarding work opportunities. In an engaging interview, she discussed how her long-standing relationship with Karan’s late father and producer Yash Johar was not continued in the same manner once Karan took over their family production house Dharma Productions. Jalal reminisced about her close association with Yash Johar, calling him one of her favorite producers. She revealed how he would assure her of important roles in his projects even before conceptualizing the main character. However, according to Jalal, once Karan stepped into his father’s shoes things changed. While she had worked with Karan in several Dharma films in the past like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, opportunities stopped coming her way in the later years. The veteran actor also spoke about denying a role in Nikkhil Advani’s Kal Ho Naa Ho. She was approached to play the part eventually essayed by Sushma Seth. But since the film also featured Jaya Bachchan in a pivotal role, both Jalal and the makersmutually decided it would not make logical sense to cast her as Bachchan’s on-screen mother-in-law given their similar ages in reel life. Jalal stated that Karan Johar’s loyalty towards colleagues seems to have changed with time. While she holds Yash Johar in high regard for his warmth and support, relationships in the industry are now more transient. Overall, this insightful interview gives viewers a candid glimpse into some of the realities of working relationships in Bollywood.
