Crystal Palace, a competitor in the English Premier League, announced yesterday the signing of Barcelona defender, Moroccan international Shadi Riyad, on a long-term contract. Riyad (20 years old) joins the London club after spending a season on loan at Real Betis, where he participated in 30 matches in all competitions. Riyad was born in Palma de Mallorca to Moroccan parents, and developed in the youth academy at the city club before moving to Barcelona, where he graduated from the club’s academy. He participated only once with the first team in Barcelona. Shadi participated in three international matches with the Moroccan national team, the first of which was against Sierra Leone last January, while he scored his first international goal against Congo earlier this week. This is the first deal concluded by Crystal Palace during the current summer transfer period, which began yesterday.
