What would you wear… on a first date? A black dress and ankle boots… on a plane? Black Lululemon “Align” leggings, cotton singlet, cotton long-sleeve tee, fine merino wool sweater and a big cosy hoodie. I wear black Nike sneakers with the laces loose, so I can slip them on and off through security.… on the red carpet? Toni Maticevski or vintage Dior. I like old Hollywood glamour. Natalie Portman wore a Dior dress to Cannes last year that was inspired by a 1940s gown; I love that silhouette. And I do wear a heel for the red carpet but not very many other places! What’s your favourite fashion era? In Hotel Cocaine, set in the late 1970s, I play a nightclub manager and I had the most extraordinary costumes. Now I’ve got a full-blown love affair with ’70s fashion: the suits, patterns, bold colours, big platforms, flares – anything goes. It was extraordinary fun. Who are your favourite designers? I love everything Stella McCartney does. For everyday wear, I like merino wool pieces from Untouched World as well as Elk’s beautiful pieces. For dressing up, I like Zimmermann, Dion Lee, Rachel Gilbert and Rebecca Vallance. What are the three essential items in your wardrobe? Black Ba&sh wide-leg jeans, Rag & Bone tees in black or white and a pair of black ankle boots. I find it hard to shake the Melbourne black but spending time in the Dominican Republic, where we filmed Hotel Cocaine, has helped me embrace more vibrant colours.
