Jean Succar Kuri, who was serving a 93-year sentence in a Cancun priso, died on Friday, June 14th, in a private hospital where he was being treated for prostate cancer. Medical personnel at the Playa Med hospital confirmed the death of Succar Kuri without giving further details, although he had various ailments due to the prostate cancer he had been battling for years. In recent days, the 79-year-old businessman was taken from the Cancun Social Reintegration Center to the “Jesús Kumate” General Hospital due to his health problems became complicated and he was later transferred to the aformentioned private clinic. Jean Succar Kuri was awaiting a hearing to determine whether or not he would be granted house arrest, which was requested by his lawyers due to his advanced age and illnesses. The story of the child prostitution network that Succar Kuri wove in Cancun and that involved businessmen and public officials came to light after an investigation by journalist Lydia Cacho, which was published on her book under the title “The Demons of Eden.” The network included businessman Kamel Nacif Borge, who was arrested in May 2021 in Lebanon, about his participation in the illegal detention and torture of journalist Lydia Cacho, along with the former governor of Puebla, Mario Marín, who remains in a federal prison. Succar Kuri was born on September 19, 1944, in Bisharri, Lebanon. He later became a Mexican citizen and chose Cancun as his place of residence, from where he wove the child prostitution network that led him to prison. For this reason, he was sentenced to 112 years in prison in 2011, he was found guilty of child pornography and trafficking of minors, although his sentence was later reduced to 94 years. One of his many victims and main accuser is Edith Encalada, who recently participated in a local deputyship in Quintana Roo, and asked the authorities not to favor him with the house arrest that Succar Kuri requested, but never got.
