Countryfile’s Adam Henson has confessed to shedding tears behind the scenes after visiting a holistic massage therapist for a segment on the BBC show. The TV personality, who recently shared his struggles following his wife Charlie’s pancreatic cancer diagnosis, spoke about his experience with a reiki massage. Filming in Glastonbury, Adam described the session as ‘amazing’ and ‘cathartic’, despite his initial scepticism towards holistic therapy. Speaking to Somerset Life, the 58 year old revealed that the therapist advised him to rest and hydrate after the massage. He said: “Now I’m a bit of a cynic for this stuff, but do you know what? It was amazing. I don’t know what the practitioner did but at the end she told me to go back to the hotel, drink lots of water and rest. I know I’m an emotional chap and I do wear my heart on my sleeve but when I lay down on the bed I cried and cried.” Still puzzled by the profound impact of the massage, Adam’s disclosure follows his admission that both he and Charlie were reduced to tears following her pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The couple decided to tie the knot weeks after Charlie’s diagnosis, and instead of embarking on a honeymoon, she was mere hours away from critical life-or-death surgery. “We cried a lot,” Adam confessed to the Daily Mirror, explaining that the wedding served as a farewell for his partner at the time. Charlie was in ‘good health’ until 2020 when she started experiencing stomach issues. Her stomach problems intensified over Christmas 2020 and she sought medical advice early in 2021. After her health continued to deteriorate, Charlie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The couple managed to find one of the nation’s top experts and arranged for her to have surgery. Fast forward two years, Charlie has returned to work part-time and is living from one six-monthly scan to the next.
