Speaking to Miriam O’Callaghan on RTE Radio 1, Holly said: “Like a lot of couples out there we learnt the hard way that it’s not always that easy to plan [a pregnancy].” The politician went on to share that she has been trying to plan her pregnancy so that her child would be at least a year old before the next general election – however tragic circumstances meant the plans had to change. “I went through two miscarriages in the last year,” said Holly. Continuing: “It’s something we know happens to quite a lot of people – I think it’s one in three women [that] experience it – and we just don’t hear a lot about it.” Holly went on to share that hearing other people share their story about losing a pregnancy made her feel less alone as she grieved the losses. She said: “I have to say hearing other women speak about it I found maybe comforting, [you] feel like you’re less alone, like you’re not the only one going through it.”
