Barack Obama says his daughters Malia and Sasha are not interested in pursuing careers in politics based on advice from their mother, Michelle Obama. At a fundraising event for President Joe Biden in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 15, Barack, 62, gave insight into the lives of his two daughters. During a conversation with Jimmy Kimmel and Biden, 81, at the Peacock Theater, the former president said both of his daughters will “never” be president when asked by Kimmel, 56, would be a better leader of the United States. “That is a question I do not need to answer, because Michelle drilled into them so early that you would be crazy to go into politics,” Barack answered. “It’ll never happen.” “They’re powerful young women,” Biden added of Malia, 25, and Sasha, 22. Both of the former first daughters appear to have heeded Michelle’s advice, with Malia pursuing a career in the entertainment industry instead. Most recently, the oldest Obama daughter screened a short film she wrote and directed at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Per Malia, her film, called The Heart, in which she’s credited as Malia Ann, is about a man grieving the death of his mother “after she leaves him an unusual request in her will.” “We hope you enjoy the film and it makes you feel a bit less lonely, or at least reminds you not to forget about the people who are,” the filmmaker said in a video for Sundance discussing her project. She also previously worked as a staff writer on the recent Amazon Prime thriller series Swarm. Younger sister Sasha, meanwhile, graduated from the University of Southern California with an undergraduate degree in sociology in May 2023.
