Less than a month after he was hospitalized for a biking accident, Gordon Ramsay hit the mound to throw a ceremonial first pitch! The Boston Red Sox enlisted the help of the celebrity chef, 57, on Tuesday, June 25 as they took on the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. Although the Red Sox ultimately lost 4 to 9, the star kicked off the game with flair, appearing fully healed from his accident as he delivered a stellar first pitch. Rocking a custom “03” jersey, Ramsay waved to the crowd before throwing the baseball to the closing pitcher Liam Hendriks. Though his pitch was a bit high, it crossed the mound and Hendriks caught it with ease — and, of course, the crowd went wild.

The chef’s Boston visit comes a little over a week after he revealed that he experienced a “really bad” bicycling accident — and said he’s “lucky to be here.” In a June 15 clip he shared on Instagram, Ramsay said the accident happened while he was biking in Connecticut. He said that the incident “really shook me” and said he had been admitted to a hospital for care. “I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week,” he added while revealing his heavily bruised ribs. “And I’m sort of getting through it — but I cannot tell you the importance of wearing a helmet.” In the caption, Ramsay elaborated further, explaining that he did not “break any bones or suffer any major injuries,” but he was “a bit bruised up” and “looking like a purple potato.” Ramsay then reiterated that he was “thankful” he had been wearing a helmet, which he said saved his life. “I don’t care how short the journey is,” he wrote. “I don’t care, you know, the fact that these helmets cost money … they’re crucial. Even with the kids, a short journey, they’ve got to wear a helmet.”

While in Boston, the MasterChef star also stopped by the city’s Gordon Ramsay Burger — and delivered some food to local firefighters, per his Instagram. Plus, he tapped into another Boston sport: football. Ramsay spent some time with both the Red Sox’s mascot, Wally the Green Monster, and the New England Patriots mascot Pat Patriot, which the Patriots documented with an Instagram post. The chef wished the Patriots the best in their upcoming season and earned a stamp of approval from team legend Tom Brady. “How’d I do @tombrady ??” Ramsay commented on the Patriots’ post, and Brady replied, “Looks good to me ❤️.” Ramsay also reposted a photo of himself making a heart with his hands during the Red Sox game on his Instagram Stories, and wrote, “?? BOSTON.”
