Dua Lipa dropped the F-bomb just minutes after she played her opening set at the first night of 2024 Glastonbury Festival on Friday night. The Houdini hitmaker, 28, was verbally stunned at the reaction she received from the crowd after performing her first song of the night. The hitmaker, who headlined the Pyramid Stage for the first time, shared her nerves and excitement by shouting ‘What the f***’ as she spoke to the crowd. Emotionally, Dua said: ‘Glastonbury, what the f***! I can’t believe this. I’ve dreamt about this my whole life and I can’t believe I’m right up here, right here with you guys. I am so happy to be here with you guys tonight. Thank you so much.’
Dua pulled off her best dance moves, showcased her risqué outfits and impressed the audience with her jaw-dropping voice on stage. But some fans were unimpressed by the foul-mouthed language and flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their anger. Some wrote: ‘Loving Dua Lipa – yeah, baby! Till she said the f-word and I switched over to Goodnight Sweetheart – absolutely no cause for that kind of language.’ ‘I don’t really need to see anymore of #Glastonbury2024 – was only interested in the gig ! It will end up being the best of the weekend – can’t see how it can be beaten. (Could have wound in the language a bit, though !!)’ Others jumped to Dua’s defence claiming she never swore as they wrote: ‘I don’t think she said that. I think it was a swear word. #DuaLipa #Glastonbury2024.’
Dua went through a medley of hits and performed several acrobatic dance routines in a leather studded bodysuit as she was cheered on by thousands at Worthy Farm. At one point, Dua got up front and close to the crowds while she belted out her hit new song Physical. Dua turned Glastonbury into a festival-turned nightclub for a whole hour and 45 minutes, singing hits including Houdini, Cold Heart and even a remix of New Rules. Viewers were captivated by Dua’s two-hour performance which did include live vocals in many of the songs. They wrote: ‘Dua Lipa is actually too good. God I wish I was there.’ ‘Smashed it dua lipa’ and ‘Dua Lipa’s been pretty good actually. I only know One Kiss, but her voice is better than I thought it would be. Look forward to seeing her in the Sunday afternoon legend slot in about 25 years time’. ‘This Dua Lipa and Kevin Parker collab is magical’ and ‘smashed it Dua Lipa’. ‘Dua Lipa just devoured her #Glastonbury set, Full of hits, LIVE vocals, Outfit Changes, non stop dancing and incredible production. She is a modern music LEGEND’. ‘More dua lipa please…thought she was fab’. ‘Dua Lipa is absolutely smashing it. Proper proper Pyramid headline slot, this.’
However some supporters wondered whether she was miming in her performance, as her lips appeared to be out of sync with the music at times during the show. Those watching the set described the possibility of the One Kiss hitmaker not singing live as ‘terrible’. Taking to X, formerly Twitter , one wrote: ‘It’s a shame #DuaLipa can’t sing live. Don’t turn up to glasto and mime. ‘Rubbish.’ ‘Imagine paying all that money to go Glastonbury to stand there and watch Dua Lipa mime the song and not even sing it. How bad’. ‘Dua Lipa delivering a top of the pops mime set’. ‘Dua Lipa has some decent catchy tunes, but I’m fairly sure she’s lip syncing. Sounds like a live vocal, but just not convinced she’s singing it live “right now”.
