There’s nothing Brits love more than complaining about the weather – whether it’s wind, rain, snow or even sunshine. And that’s definitely been the case in recent weeks, when many of us have been moaning about how erratic conditions are. One minute we’re sweating from feeling “muggy” and the next we’re being rained on! So with summer spirits already dampened, it’s no surprise that Reddit users have had a lot to say ahead of the 30C heatwave on the way. Someone shared their dislike for the warm and wet weather on the r/britishproblems forum. They complained it is an uncomfortable middle ground to be in – as it’s “too warm to wear a rain coat, too wet not to”. Their post read: “Just went to walk the dog. Starting p**sing it down five minutes after leaving the house so I put my ‘breathable’ waterproof on. Ended up wet and hot.” And it seems the observation struck a chord with many – who aren’t enjoying the weather right now. Other comments revealed the same hate for the current slate of weather conditions, with one user writing: “It’s really muggy isn’t it”. One responder commented: “Yep. To add to my woes I also got completely savaged by horse flies. They seem to like the weather.” The original poster sympathised, branding the beasts as the “bane of [their] f***ing life”. Another wrote: “Been an absolute sweaty mess all day. How does it feel so hot and cold all at the same time?” A third wrote: “Sometimes it’s easier to just accept getting wet and change clothes.” One Redditor did have a helpful suggestion though, pointing out: “May I suggest to you the humble, yet misunderstood, umbrella?” But others were outraged by the suggestion given the wind. They wrote: “What? In this wind????” Another user added: “Umbrellas are for a mostly fictional situation where it rains without an accompanying gale. This only happens in a Hollywood sound stage version of the UK, with the red phoneboxes and guys with bowler hats. But people keep buying them.” Temperature maps from WXcharts are turning a vibrant shade of red as temperatures are expected to leap by 10 degrees on Sunday 21 July. A new area of high pressure means heatwave conditions from mainland Europe are expected to finally reach our shores, and end a long spell of miserable wet weather in the UK. The hottest weather will be seen in the southeast, where highs of 26C could be seen, and the mercury could hit 24C as far north as Humberside. Areas to the far north and west will meanwhile see temperatures between 18C and 20C. It comes after Exacta Weather’s James Madden claimed people in some parts of the UK will be able to “get the barbecues ready” soon, claiming heat could rise upwards of 35C. He said: “Get the barbecues at the ready, as a big change and some big heat are now set to arrive on cue! The expected and well-promised pattern change for July 10–20, particularly July 15–17, is now on and imminent for some very hot to potentially extreme heat, which is now on the horizon for many parts of the country within the next several days.”
