A neglected eastern suburbs shopping centre has been slammed as “pathetic, deserted and awfully sad” almost four years after a retail group was called on to redevelop the “broken-down concrete jungle”.
In November 2020, Victoria-based Vicinity Centres — the company behind Belmont Forum, Cockburn Gateway and DFO Perth — announced it would defer a $350 million expansion of Morley Galleria “until the retail market strengthened”.

Since 2020, more than 10 retailers and eateries, including McDonald’s and Wendy’s, have vacated the centre. The once vibrant second-storey is now home to just a handful of stores, including Valleygirl, Dome and Foot Locker.
One local took to social media condemning Morley Galleria as an “absolute scrap failure”.
“The Galleria is an absolute scrap failure of greed by the owners,” he said.
