CHOCOLATE, biscuits and cakes could be slapped with cigarette-style warnings in Labour’s latest nanny state crackdown, The Sun on Sunday can reveal. Ministers aim to toughen messaging on food packaging in their war on childhood obesity. It comes amid fears the Government will target cartoon characters on food labels. A source highlighted the kids’ Kellogg’s Frosties cereal ad, saying: “We have to re-educate Tony the Tiger.” Sir Keir Starmer is already banning under-16s buying high-caffeine drinks, and junk food TV ads before 9pm. And The Sun revealed the PM’s plans to ban smoking in pub gardens. A source said: “We want to give parents better information so they can make informed choices. “Our children are getting shorter, fatter and sicker.” But Maxwell Marlow, of the Adam Smith Institute think tank, said: “Brits are perfectly capable of reading ingredients lists on labels. “This will just be another burden on businesses.” The Department of Health said: “The Government is urgently tackling the obesity crisis.”
