Ever since Prince Harry left behind his senior role in the UK and set up home for his family in sunny California, he’s been quite vocal about the personal struggles he endured whilst serving as a member of the British Royal Family.
The Duke has spilled royal secrets in a string of public disclosures that have caught the globe’s attention. The list includes his explosive chat with Oprah Winfrey alongside wife Meghan, his revealing memoir Spare, and the couple’s intimate Netflix docuseries; they’ve not held back on sharing their family narrative and delving into the pressures associated with the royal limelight.
Over the past four years, the Sussexes have frequently stepped into the media fray – usually in sync with whatever project they’re championing at the time.
Notably, during an interview for The Cut magazine which coincided with the debut of Meghan’s Archetypes podcast, the spotlight may have been on the Duchess, but Harry also dropped in for a cameo, eliciting a “vocal eye roll” from the Duke when probed about families working together.
That particular sit-down, released in August 2023 by journalist Allison P. Davis, featured an inside look at the cosy Montecito residence shared by Meghan and Harry.
Providing insights into their domestic life, Allison observed the layout of their home office: “The two run Archewell from their shared home office, specifically from two plush club chairs placed side by side behind a single desk, facing into the room like thrones.”
Harry opened up about the unique dynamics of working closely with family, admitting, “Most people that I know and many of my family, they aren’t able to work and live together,” a sentiment he expressed with a hint of irony in his voice, akin to a vocal eye roll.
He went on to say, “It’s actually really weird because it’d seem like a lot of pressure. But it just feels natural and normal.”
The Duke of Sussex has a history of professional collaboration with his royal relatives; he once shared office space with Prince William and Kate at Kensington Palace. Together, the brothers founded the Royal Foundation in 2009 to support their philanthropic interests.
Fast forward to October 2020, amidst the global health crisis, Harry and Meghan launched Archewell. During the interview, Meghan shed light on the challenges they faced, saying, “Well, it’s a start-up, we were building a business,” highlighting the couple’s busy schedule during lockdown and the joyous arrival of their daughter Princess Lilibet in June 2021.
