Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer Singh is Kinng released in 2008 is one of the OG comedy films of Bollywood. As per the latest buzz, the action comedy is finally getting back on the big screen with a sequel, 12 years after its original release. Filmmaker Shailendra Singh has already begun working on the follow-up. However, there are rumours that another Bollywood actor might replace Akshay Kumar in the film. If these rumours turn out to be true, this would be the second major franchise, following Bhool Bhulaiyaa, that Akshay Kumar lost out on due to underperforming films.Singh Is Kinng makers confirm the sequelIn a recent interview with Miday, Singh Is Kinng producer Shailendra Singh confirmed the news saying, “I have started working on Singh Is Kinng 2. I will begin production in October 2025, aiming for a 2026 release.” When asked about the motivation behind the sequel, the producer explained that the current trend is focused on sequels and remakes. He also mentioned that the final title of the film might either be Singh Is Kinng 2 or Singh Is Kinng Returns. He said that Ranveer Singh is his first choice and he has approached his team. “Ranveer’s energy, bubbly and fun are perfect for the character. Also, Ranveer has never played a Sardar before,” Shailendra said. Apart from Ranveer, Diljit Dosanjh will be his second choice. The first part, Singh Is Kinng, was directed by Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3 fame Anees Bazmee and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. Now, it will be a real challenge for the makers to live up to the audience’s expectations for another of Akshay’s iconic films without him.
