Suresh Oberoi, who is known for the many supporting roles that he played in films such as Coolie, Mirch Masala, Tezaab, among many others, recently shared that despite being a widely popular actor, he had to go through his share of struggles in the industry when he found out that people were speaking ill about him behind his back. Suresh said that even though he was the consummate professional, there were people who would spread rumours about him around the industry. “People used to do a lot of backbiting. They would say, ‘He is unprofessional’. If someone is a good performer, they would not say, ‘I don’t want to work with him because he is good’, they would say, ‘He is unprofessional, he is not a good person’. How would they say, ‘I don’t want to work with you because you are a good actor and I don’t want to be overshadowed by you?’ No one would say that,” he shared with Bollywood Hungama. Suresh added, “People would tell me, ‘You are great to work with, I don’t understand why others say such bad things about you. You come on time, you finish your work and go, you don’t bother anyone, why do they say that’?” he recalled, and added, “A lot of actors are very jealous. The big stars are the most jealous, most cowardly.” ALSO READ | The rise and fall of Amitabh Bachchan’s political career: An emotional decision that scarred his legacy When asked to elaborate on the same, Suresh said that when he got good reviews, many actors would feel jealous. Without naming names, Suresh recalled an incident where his voice was compared to Amitabh Bachchan’s, and he implied that this could have rubbed people the wrong way. “There was a film that I did called Tumhare Bina. A reviewer wrote ‘Amitabh Bachchan has to gargle now and make his voice better because there is someone better than him’. People would write ‘He is the surprise package of the film.’ Whenever anyone is praised a lot, hundreds of people go against him,” he said. Suresh was last seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal.
