Dr Punam Krishan has been flooded with support after she spoke about the ‘self disappointment’ she felt following her latest Strictly Come Dancing performance.

The Morning Live star and her dance partner Gorka Marquez were riding high after their best performance to date last weekend as they made Strictly history by performing a Bollywood number during Movie Week.

However, they didn’t get the reaction from the judges they may have been hoping for after the duo had taken to the dance floor with a lively jive to Lizzo’s 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) in vibrant pink metallic outfits.

Craig Revel Horwood said the routine was ‘sloppy, messy, full of mistakes’ while Motsi Mabuse also commented that the ‘pressure got to you after last week’ as she said there were ‘quite a few mistakes’.

Reflecting on the weekend after she headed back into training for week five of the BBC One dance contest after surviving the public vote, Dr Punam shared on social media: “Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned and that’s ok…there’s lessons within that and this is what I learned this weekend.

“You can prepare, prepare, prepare and pour your everything into something you love and care about but blips are part of the journey and you’ve just got to get back up, dust yourself down and try your best again.”I made some mistakes on Saturday. The sense of self disappointment and frustration was real because I knew that dance. I’d worked so hard at it all week, I loved it so much and I’d smashed it in my rehearsals in the lead up to Saturday. However, on show day, I messed up during my last rehearsal. Instead of accepting it was just a blip, I let the inner critic take over and I carried that anxiety into the performance. I let the nerves control me and well, as @craigrevel said, it wasn’t my night.

“Nobody likes making mistakes, doing that on national telly is even worse, but I’ve since muted that horrid inner critic and here’s what I’ve learned from the experience.”

She went on to share: “1. When mistakes happen and things don’t go as planned, keep smiling and keep going! Instead of beating myself up, I’m proud that I didn’t stop, I got to the end and gave it my everything regardless. I shared this lesson with my kids yesterday because mistakes and failings are part of life but it’s how you recover from them is what matters.”2. When things go wrong – don’t dwell on them, move on! It’s normal and human to feel deflated but energy management is key! Deep breaths, you can’t control what’s been but you CAN control what can be. I totally see why they call this @bbcstrictly a journey.”

She added: “I’m so so grateful to each and every one of you who voted for me and @gorka_marquez . I want to do him and all of you proud. I promise to keep working hard on my techniques, my sense of confidence and self-belief and most of all take these positive lessons onto the next stage of this competition.

“Yes I’m not a dancer, I’m a GP but I’m loving the experience and I’m loving learning the dances and really want to improve. So new week, new energy! Gosh, week 5 – from the bottom of heart, thank you, you all are just the best.”

And her fans and followers were quick to respond. @magslcunningham said: “Well said….something each one of us can take onboard too! We are all behind you Punam!” @doctorsgetcancertoo commented: “Thankyou for sharing your journey, your growth and honesty. You are going amazing and we are all rooting for you.”

@shelitept wrote: “Be proud- what you’re achieving is nothing short of amazing.” @harlowdoc replied: “I think you are amazing. Enjoy this weeks training and I can’t wait for the weekend.” @toriap36 posted: “You are inspiring and keep going, Scotland loves you.” @adammorganuk added: “You’ve got this @drpunamkrishan – keep being awesome.”
