Police have arrested four people in the murder case of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique in Mumbai last week. India Today has reviewed social media profiles of some of the accused to gain a better understanding about their psyche.Among them are brothers Subham a.k.a Shubuu Lonkar and Pravin Lonkar, the sons of a farmer from Akot, Maharashtra who operated a local dairy in Bhalekar Wasti, near Pune’s Karvenagar area. Lonkar’s profile on Instagram reveals that he was influenced by the ideals of revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and was also a devoted follower of the Hindu deity Mahakal. In a number of posts, he posed in a saffron-coloured T-shirt featuring the faces of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. He was often seen wearing a red tilak on his forehead.He flaunted money and social connections to his social media followers. In November last year, he posted an Instagram video captioning it “LB Group America,” purportedly referring to the Lawrence Bishnoi group. It showed bundles of US dollar notes scattered on a bed with expensive iPhones and Mankirt Aulakh’s song Jail playing in the background.Lonkar’s birthday celebration on December 12 was showcased on Instagram, where a large gathering of over a hundred people could be seen. Among the crowd, his brother Pravin Lonkar, also implicated as an accused, could be identified.The Lonkar brothers were initially arrested in January this year in an arms trading operation case, and released on bail. They were required to pay regular visits to the local police station in Akot sub-division of Maharashtra’s Akola district to mark their presence in the city, but had been missing since June 13.Pravin’s social media suggests that he studied at Abasaheb Garware College in Pune. His Instagram timeline reveals his devotion to Swami Samarth, also known as the Swami of Akkalkot. Several of his photos on Instagram were shot outside the family-run Lonkar Dairy.He posted several photos with Sushil Mengade, the Maharashtra BJP Yuva Morcha’s State General Secretary over the years. In a photo posted in August 2022, Pravin can be seen offering cake to Mengade.Media reports suggest that Shubham Lonkar was questioned by the crime branch in June for allegedly providing logistical support and shelter to suspects involved in the Salman Khan house firing incident. However, due to insufficient evidence at the time, he was released without charges.The third accused, Shiv Kumar Gautam – who fired at Siddique and was on the run as of Tuesday evening – boasted about his criminal background. In a post, he wrote: “Yr tere gangster hai meri jaani” ( which loosely translates to: “I am a gangster, my dear”).The police have so far arrested four people – Dharmaraj Kashyap, Gurmail Singh, Pravin Lonkar and Shubham Lonkar. Shiv Kumar Gautam, and Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar are on the run.Baba Siddique was shot at just outside his MLA-son Zeeshan Siddique’s office on the night of October 12.
