Shalini Passi Says Her Mother Would Put Chilli Powder On Her Tongue If She Abused: ‘Dilli Se Hoon…’

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Shalini Passi of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives fame shared an amusing yet insightful anecdote from her childhood about the way her mother disciplined her. Known for her high-profile presence in the art and fashion circles, Shalini revealed that her mother had a no-nonsense approach to keeping her children in check, especially when it came to language.
During an interview with Deepak Pareek, Shalini introduced herself as “Mein Dilli se hu…” When she was promoted to finish her statement with an abusive word which has become the ending of this sentence in slang talk, Shalini said, “Mein Dilli se hu aur Dilli mere dil mein basti hai. What else do you want me to say?”
Shalini revealed that she does not abuse and said, “No I don’t abuse. I am a person if somebody says something or digs their nose, I immediately ask them not to do so because I pick up things very fast. Similarly, if somebody is abusing, I say please don’t stay in front of me because I might…”
When asked if she has ever spoken any abusive words, she said, “Of course we all have at some point in our life, but I don’t. My mother used to put chilli powder in my mouth if I said bad things.”
Shalini also opened up about being a mother herself at the age of 20. “I used to go to the toy store and get as excited as my son. I would take him to Disneyland and go mad on the rides with him. And then I used to tell him, ‘Robin, let’s do skating classes,’ I used to take him ice skating. So both of us are ice skating then I taught him skiing, scuba diving. We were like siblings. It is like we grew up together. For the longest time, he used to call me by my name and it is only now that he addresses me as his mom,” she said.
Shalini Passi is an art collector and art connoisseur with a penchant for music, dance, archery, shooting, scuba diving and fashion. She used to be a state-level gymnast before she became a patron of the arts. Shalini also runs the My Art Shalini and Shalini Passi Art Foundation.
