The staid, serious faces at the meeting of the National Democratic Alliance MPs in New Delhi on Friday turned out to be one of laughter and reminiscences for two former celluloid colleagues meet each other. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan met Mandi MP-elect Kangana Ranaut at the meeting. The two had worked together in a film which was Chirag Paswan’s first and, presumably, last flop in Bollywood, Miley Na Miley Hum. The 2011 film sank without a trace. Chirag Paswan played a tennis player who falls in love with a supermodel, Ranaut. Of course, film magazines of yore took note of their chemistry and comfort with each other. But Paswan’s future lay in another field of public life and not in plain old entertainment unlike Ranaut, who has made and left a mark in Hindi films. The trend machine on social media is currently going overboard with RAGANA trending on X and Instagram. Chirag Paswan won from Hajipur, a seat long held by his late father, Ram Vilas Paswan. When they bumped into each other, Ranaut was overcome with excitement when she greeted Chirag Paswan. Their handshake turned into a chat, with Ranaut holding onto his hand as they laughed at their Bollywood memories. Chirag Paswan expressed his joy at meeting Kangana Ranaut. He said they had shared a good relationship and worked together in a film. He mentioned that they would be meeting in Parliament and described her as a strong woman who articulates her opinions well and added that he was looking forward to listening to her in Parliament. A resolute baiter of Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan continues to be in the NDA and had expressed unconditional support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the recent Lok Sabha election win by the BJP-led NDA shows that people strongly support Modi’s leadership. Kangana Ranaut was in a spot of controversy over her being allegedly slapped by a CISF constable at Chandigarh airport on Thursday when she was travelling to New Delhi from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. The CISF woman constable, Kulwinder Kaur, has been suspended and a FIR has been registered against her on a written complaint by CISF officials. According to CISF personnel, the alleged attack was related to Kangana Ranaut’s inappropriate statement against Punjab women during the farmers’ agitation against the three farm laws. On Friday, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait lent his support to the CISF constable and said there was an argument and no one was slapped.
