Eva Longoria is bringing Desperate Housewives energy to Only Murders in the Building. In episode 5 of the hit Hulu series, Longoria — who plays a fictionalized version of herself — made a hilarious reference to the show she’s widely known for after Mabel (Selena Gomez) thanked her for “playing the crazy celebrity card.” “Oh, honey, I’ve asked for crazier things,” Longoria, 49, told Mabel and Oliver (Martin Short), before recalling a hilarious — and completely fabricated — memory about the final season of Desperate Housewives. “In season 8 of Desperate Housewives, I told them I wouldn’t return unless they legalized gay marriage,” she said. “And guess what? They did. You’re welcome, gays!” Longoria walked away after making the outlandish claim, leaving Mabel and Oliver shell-shocked. In Only Murders, Longoria meets Mabel, Oliver and Charles (Steve Martin) when they travel to Hollywood after a studio reaches out with interest in making a movie out of the trio’s hit murder podcast. Longoria is pitched to play Mabel in the movie, while Eugene Levy will star as Charles and Zach Galifianakis will appear as Oliver. However, the murder-solving trio isn’t exactly thrilled at the prospect. Aside from making her debut in Only Murders, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of Desperate Housewives’ premiere. On Today with Hoda & Jenna in June, Longoria joked that she hasn’t “aged” since the show’s premiere in 2004. Longoria said that the series “changed everything” in her life as she recalled, “I just remember the first time I went to London, I had never been to London before and there was a big crowd of people outside the hotel. And I was like, ‘Gosh, who’s here? Is Bono here? Somebody important must be here!’ And the driver was like, ‘… You…’ And I was like, ‘No, somebody like, big. Like a big deal!’” “And he didn’t understand that I didn’t understand. The global reach of that show, at the time where there was no streaming,” she continued. “It was a decade of my life and it was the No. 1 show in the world.” Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.
