Jamie Lee Curtis Helps Co-Star Cate Blanchett During Red Carpet Wardrobe Malfunction

Jamie Lee Curtis gave her co-star Cate Blanchett a hand on the red carpet after she had a hilarious wardrobe malfunction. During a red carpet appearance on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at an event for their video game-inspired sci-fi film Borderlands, Curtis, 65, could be seen hustling to help Blanchett, 55, as she needed some help covering up, according to Entertainment Tonight.

“Nothing is going on! You know what is going on? I got her back,” Curtis said as she stood behind her co-star and seemingly held up her pants, according to the outlet, while Blanchett laughed.

Following the minor wardrobe malfunction — in which something on her black trousers seeming ripped — Blanchett, who also wore a top from Swedish brand Hodakova made of 102 antique spoons, complimented Curtis for her quick thinking and revealed just how much she takes care of her cast mates on film sets.

“On every single movie that Jamie makes, she is the den mother,” Blanchett told ET.

The actresses have previously been candid about their friendship. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the same event earlier this week, Curtis revealed that they grew close during the filming of Borderlands.

“What I didn’t know is we’d become friends,” she told the outlet of working with two-time Oscar winner Blanchett. “You hope you will, but you know, you make movies, you travel a lot, people travel all over the world.”

“I had a great experience with her and it’s been lovely to become friends with someone who you’ve admired for such a long time,” Curtis continued. “We’ve had some really intimate moments together and she’s a beautiful person.”

Last month, Curtis also wrote in a lengthy Instagram post caption that “the sole reason I left my family and moved to Budapest in the middle of Covid” when she was offered a part in Borderlands was that she had the chance to work with Blanchett.

“She’s a great actress and role model and feminist and devoted, humanitarian and her work with @refugees is a great example to me of the marriage between art and ACTIVISM,” Curtis added of Blanchett and her humanitarian work for organizations like United Nations Refugee Agency.

The pair have been friends since the film wrapped, and even celebrated their respective Oscar nominations together in January 2023 (Curtis’ for Everything Everywhere All at Once, Blanchett’s for Tár). That same month, the friends even took a road trip to the 2023 Palm Springs International Film Awards. At the event, Curtis presented Blanchett with the festival’s Desert Palm achievement award — and took a few moments to joke about her driving skills.

“I made a condition that we drive together which immediately became an achievement competition of its own as [Blanchett] claims to be a great driver and I had to remind her that I am born and raised in the f—— city of angels,” Curtis told the audience at the award ceremony.

“I’ve been to Palm Springs and back, high and not high, I’ve gone to Hadley’s and had a date shake a million times,” she continued. “And so, although I’m sure there are many, many things that Cate Blanchett can say about herself, and she may be under some delusion that her top three includes driving, I will beg loudly to differ…”

Borderlands hits theaters on Aug. 9.
