Aaron Carter’s twin sister, Angel, recalled the years she spent preparing for his death as she watched him struggle with drugs since the age of 12. During Wednesday’s episode of the “Squeeze” podcast, the singer discussed her brother’s passing as well as her older sister, Leslie, who died from an overdose in 2012.

“What’s so interesting about Leslie’s passing — she passed away when I was 23 — her death completely blindsided me,” she told hosts Taylor and Tay Lautner. “I didn’t see that one coming.”

“When she died, I was already in therapy preparing for Aaron’s death,” Angel, 36, continued. “I thought he was going to die. I feared it my entire 20s. I knew this day was going to come and I think he knew it too.”

The mom of one, who dedicated years of her life trying to help the “I Want Candy” crooner, explained he couldn’t get himself out of his addiction and often pushed away her support. She recalled the summer of 2019 when the singer’s battle heightened as he experienced an alleged episode of psychosis amid his diagnosis of bipolar and schizophrenia disorders.

Around that time, Angel alleged Aaron told her about his thoughts of killing babies and how he started to accumulate several guns within a week. The situation led Angel, who was a new mom to daughter Harper Noelle Conrad, and their older brother, Nick, to file a restraining order against the “Aaron’s Party” singer. The court order led to Aaron’s guns being taken away.

“I had to protect him from himself,” Angel said as she teared up. Angel blamed the “Fool’s Gold” hitmaker’s downfall on the years he was “exploited and used” by the people around him since the start of his career at age 9. “I couldn’t save him,” she said. “It wasn’t my responsibility to save him but I tried.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Angel explained that Aaron was the “breadwinner” of their family. She recalled the pop star believing their parents’ 2003 divorce was his fault as they were torn apart by the greed of his success.

“He thought that the success destroyed the family,” she said. While Aaron started experimenting with marijuana before his parents split when he was 12, it wasn’t until they officially called it quits that he started taking “hard” drugs. “He was experimenting with ecstasy and huffing duster cans,” Angel claimed, recalling she didn’t find out until “years later” that Aaron continued the “bad stuff” into his 20s.

Before his Nov. 5, 2022 death, Aaron was in and out of rehab with his last treatment session being in September 2022 as he tried to regain custody of his now-2-year-old son, Prince, with whom he shares ex- fiancée Melanie Martin. Aaron was found dead in a bathtub at his California estate after slipping and falling. He was 34.

Per an autopsy report obtained by Page Six, his death was ruled accidental, though he was found to be under the influence of several substances. A year later, the father of one’s 41-year-old sister, Bobbie Jean, died from drug abuse.
