Strictly Come Dancing’s Aljaz Skorjanec has hit out at fans who’ve criticised him for being a stay-at-home-dad. The dancer, 34, who stepped away from the BBC show in 2022 before his wife, It Takes Two host, Janette Manrara, 40, gave birth to their first child, said he stands by his decision to devote his time to little Lyra. Addressing the couple’s parenting plans, he said the dancers “put the cards on the table and made the decision” that he would step away from his work for a bit, adding it “made the most sense”. Speaking about the stigma around stay-at-home dads, Aljaz said: “So many people give their opinions, but I don’t pay much attention to it and I don’t care for it, either.” He continued: “My sole focus is the wellbeing of Lyra and Janette and making sure they’re OK, that we’re OK,” reports OK! Speaking to Heat magazine about the backlash, the doting dad added: “I’ve always been good with not reading the comments. I feel like if you work in the world of entertainment, because of my talent, now all of a sudden my private life is there for everyone to judge or have an opinion on. All I ever want to do is to be a good dad and husband, and that to me is a priority and I’m going to do that in the best possible way that I know how to do.” Alijaz, who is approaching his first Father’s Day, said he can’t wait for the special occasion, telling OK! that he wants to “spoil Janette and Lyra even more that day”, insisting that “just being there and being next to them is the best present”. It comes as Janette shared a video on Instagram telling fans how delighted she was that the Strictly line-up of professional dancers had been released, saying she works with “the best people”. The Cuban dancer is expected to take up her role again as the host of Strictly’s spin off show: It Takes Two, which is on weeknights on BBC 2 when Strictly returns to our screens. Sitting in a golf buggy with her mum, she gushed of the line-up: “They’re the best people to work with. Strictly! Can’t wait!” Many Strictly fans also can’t wait also for the star-studded series to start in September. However, there are some, who’ve said they won’t be watching because Giovanni Pernice won’t be in it. In bombshell news, the Italian was left out of the line-up amid claims of bullying behaviour in the training room at Strictly, which he denies. Commenting on the new series on Instagram today, one fan quipped: “I won’t be watching. Strictly won’t be the same without Giovanni. It’s very sad because I’ve watched the series for 20 years.” The Mirror has contacted the BBC for comment regarding Janette’s return to Strictly: It Takes Two. ‘Follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads.
