Parents and kids snatching up “Wicked”-themed toys were surprised with a different “wicked” altogether.
Mattel “Wicked” dolls sold ahead of the Universal Pictures movie’s Nov. 22 release have an error on their packaging — they direct people to a porn site.
The mistake can be found on “singing” dolls of main characters Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, and Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, as well as dolls of other characters.
The toy packaging was supposed to link customers to the “Wicked” movie website — wickedmovie.com — but instead links people to wicked.com (warning: explicit material), an 18-and-older website home to Wicked Pictures, a purveyor of parody porn films.
Mattel issued a statement regarding the error, as reported by Variety:
“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel ‘Wicked’ collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page. We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”
