LAGOS – Residents of Agbado Oke-Odo under the auspices of Community Development Council (CDC) have expressed their appreciation to the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, over the release of food palliatives to them and other residents of the state. The beneficiaries were full of praises and appreciation for the governor for giving them various food packages comprising rice, beans and gari in large quantities. The food materials were distributed through the leadership of the Community Development Committee led by Elder Ernest Kasumu as Chairman and the Secretary, Sakiru Oguntola and other members of their team. The palliatives packaged in 25kg of rice, beans and gari were meant for the less privileged and vulnerable in the community. They noted that never have the people felt the good gestures of the government like this and urged the governor to continue to dispense and distribute materials like this through the Community Development Committee, which would ensure that the gifts truly get to the grassroots and those they are meant to serve. The residents maintained that by this action, the state government has fulfilled its promise of helping the residents under the Lagos State Social Intervention Programme, Ounje Eko and Eko Cares, in collaboration with the Federal government Food Security Programme. Agbado Oke Odo has over CDAs and about 14 Joint CDAs, and the foods were distributed through the Joint CDA leaders from Ikola, Aboru, Abule Egba, Ojokoro, Olota Joint CDAs and others. The beneficiaries thus thank the leadership of the CDC and their various CDAs for the selfless ways they distributed the food items to them, recommending that the government should continue to make use of the CDCs for such tasks. They offered prayers to the government and executioners of the smooth distribution of the fold palliatives. Lagos State government has disclosed his plans to feed 500,000 residents through the food palliatives through which foodstuff would be distributed to through the local governments, community development associations, religious bodies and other stakeholders to ensure that the food gets to the vulnerable in the society. The government has also strengthened his food for the vulnerable through its Ounje Eko Initiative where food items are sold at discounted prices at on every Sunday in the 57 local government areas of the state. Mr. Williams Adelabu, Chairman, Ola Oluwa CDA under Ojokoro Joint CDAs, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu; Chairman, Agbado Oke Odo, LCDA, Hon. David Famuyiwa, and the CDC Chairman, Elder Ernest Kasumu, “for their unwavering concern for the masses and their relentless efforts in the provision of palliatives to the masses of Lagos State,” and prayed that “God almighty shall continually enhance them. They also expressed their gratitude to the LCDA and CDC, thanking them for the flawless manner in the handling the food distribution to the CDAs. Chief M.O. Oluwaseun, the General Secretary of Ifesowapo, Ikola Ilumo CDA, expressed his gratitude to the concerned authorities for the distribution of the food palliatives, saying, “the CDA expressed amazement at the generosity of this distribution, with many remarking that such a comprehensive effort had never been witnessed in Ifesowapo Ikola Ilumo CDA.” Also, Mr. A. A. Adelowo, Secretary, Ire Ayo, CDA, Oke Isagun in Agbado Oke Odo LCDA, Lagos State Government was commended for living to their promise of showing concern for Lagosians. He stated: “We are deeply grateful for the palliatives and relief packages provided, demonstrating your commitment to the well-being of all citizens. “We commend the facilitators for their excellent work and thank everyone involved. May our state continue to flourish under your leadership.”
