NOW there’s a nip in the air, a sandwich or salad is less tempting as a packed lunch. Instead these ideas for hot work-day meals will fit the bill as we head into autumn.  BOX CLEVER: If you’re going to cook a hot meal to take to work or school, you’ll need a food flask. Compare reviews for those you are interested in, with two key issues being how good it is at keeping food hot, and how leakproof it is. You can get a 470ml stainless steel Thermos food flask from Argos for £17.25, down from £23. For smaller appetites, a pink or grey flask from Asda is £7. Pre-heat the flask by filling it with hot water and leaving it to stand for five minutes, then tip it away and fill it with food LADLE IN LEFTOVERS: A simple way to have a lovely lunch is to save a portion of your dinner from the night before. Reheat in a pan or microwave before filling your food flask. This is great with dishes such as chilli, curry, sausage and bean casserole and bolognese sauce. Take a wrap or a piece of pitta or naan bread to nibble on the side.  QUICK DISHES: If you don’t have any leftovers, there are loads of quick, cheap dishes you can whip up in no time for a hot lunch. Boil up some noodles, adding peas, sweetcorn and carrots to the pan until it’s cooked. It’s also easy and inexpensive to rustle up a satisfying pasta dish, such as pasta and pesto. PACK IT IN: Get inventive with your hot meal ideas. Cook a sausage and some onions, put them in the flask, and pack a long roll for a DIY lunchtime hot dog. Microwave or air-fry a baked potato and put it in a shallow flask with beans for a simple but tasty lunch. For £3 at Asda you can get four McCain jacket potatoes, which cook in five minutes, giving you a tasty lunch with baked beans for £1.20 a day. Delicious!
