And with such a star-studded lineup, many K-culture fans will be attending the festival for the first time. KCON newbies (and veterans too) have been flooding relevant social media pages, online communities and chat groups with questions about what to expect at this year’s event. So whether you’re an experienced KCONer who’s wondering what’s new this year or a KCON novice who wants a crash course on the basics of the pop culture fest, here’s a summary of what you need to know about KCON LA 2024, all in one place. KCON is the world’s largest convention and music festival dedicated to celebrating K-pop and other aspects of Korean pop culture. Organized by South Korean entertainment conglomerate CJ ENM, the K-culture extravaganza began in the Los Angeles metropolitan area in 2012 and has since spread to New York/New Jersey, Hong Kong, Japan, United Arab Emirates, France, Mexico, Australia, Thailand and Saudi Arabia. When Is KCON LA 2024? The three-day festival will take place from Friday, July 26th – Sunday, July 28th. Where Will KCON LA Take Place? The convention and festival will take place across three venues in Los Angeles: Crypto.com Arena, the LA Convention Center and Gilbert Lindsay Plaza. The three venues for KCON LA 2024 KCON / CJ_ENM What Can I Expect At KCON LA? Events featuring K-pop artists and other celebrities will be centered on four main stages: M COUNTDOWN – Sometimes referred to as the “show” portion of KCON, this is the main concert that will be held at Crypto.com Arena. M Countdown is preceded by a “Red Carpet” event, where stars will greet fans before the concert begins. This year the concert is scheduled to kick off around 5pm local time (though the exact time is subject to change) each day and will see performances by some of K-pop’s hottest acts like NCT 127, ENHYPEN, P1Harmony and more. KCON Stage – Located in the South Hall of the LA Convention Center, the KCON Stage will feature K-pop artists and other guests chatting, doing Q&As, playing games, interacting with the audience and giving short live performances. SHOWCASE Stage – Also located in the LA Convention Center’s South Hall, the SHOWCASE Stage will be similar to the KCON Stage, with the main difference being that it will introduce talented rookie artists to an American audience. MEET & GREET – Located next to the SHOWCASE Stage, the MEET & GREET Stage will give fans the opportunity to meet and interact with their favorite K-pop artists. The four main stages at this year’s KCON LA: Showcase Stage, Meet & Greet, KCON Stage, and M … [+] Countdown KCON / CJ_ENM The “convention” portion of KCON includes the KCON Stage and SHOWCASE Stage as well as various K-culture panels and workshops hosted by experts and creatives. There will also be vendors selling and giving away lots of cool stuff like Korean food, K-pop merchandise, K-beauty products and more. In previous years, convention events took place during the day and wrapped up before the start of M COUNTDOWN, but this year—for the first time ever—the convention will remain open during part of the M COUNTDOWN show, according to a KCON spokesperson. KCON / CJ_ENM In addition, K-drama heartthrobs Rowoon (She Would Never Know, The King’s Affection) and Kim Soo-hyun (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, Queen of Tears) will be attending, along with at least one other K-drama A-lister who will be revealed soon. M COUNTDOWN will be hosted by Rowoon on Friday, K-pop star Jeon Somi on Saturday and Kim Soo-hyun on Sunday. Regarding some of the changes that we can expect this year, a KCON spokesperson stated that “there are some interesting changes KCON is working on to create a festival atmosphere that lasts all day” and that “the convention for the first time will be staying open later and during the M COUNTDOWN show.” According to a press release from April, this year’s KCON will include “more daytime performances and programming” and “an expanded layout [within the LA Convention Center] that features even more fan activations.” With TV stars like Kim Soo-hyun and Rowoon already proving to be a huge draw for the event, K-dramas will also be a major focus this time, with various related programming expected to be announced soon.
