A good neighbour from Coltness is the latest worthy recipient of the Wishaw Press’ Say it with Flowers award. Karen Young, 60, who lives in North Dryburgh Road in Wishaw was nominated by Anne Marie Attwood who lives nearby. Anne Marie told us that mum-of-three and grandmother-of-two Karen helps everyone living in the houses around her, including her, by carrying out odd jobs for them. Anne Marie’s husband died a number of years ago but Karen, a former NHS worker, has been there to support her since then. She said: “Karen helps all the neighbours, and nothing is too much trouble for her. She cuts grass, paints and basically keeps us all going. “I’ve known her for about 16 years since she moved into her house. “She’s just always doing something and helping people out if they need it. She’s just always there. “Since my husband died six years ago, if she doesn’t hear from me at some point in the day she contacts me. Karen just always seems to be running about after everybody else. “She’s a fun loving person and also has wee nights in the garden and messages all of the neighbours to tell us we are all welcome. “She also looks after her wee granddaughter a couple of nights a week, and keeps her overnight. “It was her 60th birthday last week and I would love her to know how much she is appreciated by all her neighbours for everything she does for us, and especially by me.” When Anne Marie told us about Karen’s caring nature and being such a fantastic neighbour we were delighted to present her with these beautiful flowers courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals florists in Newmains. If you’d like to nominate someone special in the community then please email us at [email protected] with their name and the reason why you think they deserve the award, and please include a contact number for yourself so we can get more details. *Don’t miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
