Music is simply magical. A single note can transport us to another world, exhilarate us, strike us with fear or wash over us with a sense of immeasurable joy. This summer, Manchester’s beloved orchestra, the Hallé, will take you on a musical journey like never before with a series of four fantastic concerts at The Bridgewater Hall. On Saturday, June 29, prepare to be propelled into 007’s dynamic world of mystery and danger with The Best of Bond, celebrating the electrifying and iconic music of the James Bond films. The orchestra will be in safe hands, as conductor Stephen Bell takes to the podium, alongside phenomenal vocalists Alison Jiear and Matthew Ford – simply a must see for any Bond fan. Later, on Saturday, July 6, the Hallé will take you on an American musical odyssey in Stars and Stripes, as the brass section stars in Copland’s triumphant ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’, which heralds the start of this captivating exploration of music from the States. The concert includes David Arnold’s bombastic score to Independence Day, Bernstein and Gershwin’s classic, sparkling rhythms, and the pomp and patriotism of Sousa’s Stars and Stripes will send you marching home, longing for more. Stephen Bell and the orchestra will also be joined by award-winning pianist Viv McLean. The summer celebrations continue on Saturday, July 13 with Stage and Screen, a spectacular celebration of the most heart-warming and unforgettable songs that have graced both the stage and cinema screen, including music from The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, Les Misérables, The Producers, Wicked, Dear Evan Hansen – and many more. Stephen Bell and the Hallé are joined by brilliant West End stars Juliette Crosbie and Tim Howar who will bring these show-stopping tunes to life. Be prepared to be swept off your feet. Capital Voices are a firm favourite with Hallé audiences, and it wouldn’t be a summer season without a visit from Annie Skates, Hazel Fernandez, Lance Ellington and Andrew Playfoot. This time, they are bringing their dancing shoes and mirror balls for a dazzling evening of Disco Dynamite on Saturday, July 27. With infectious beats, funky basslines and extravagant orchestral arrangements, celebrate the exhilarating groove of an era defined by glittering nightlife and unbridled energy, with music by disco legends The Jackson 5, Chic, Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor, Boney M. and The Village People, amongst many others. Tickets are now on sale for all four concerts at halle.co.uk or you can call The Bridgewater Hall box office on 0161 907 9000.
