HAVING a phase is typically associated with childhood, but one couple said they had one as parents. The dad revealed that he and the mother of his child used to be hippies. Redditor Godzillajrjr explained the moniker in a post on the social media platform. Together, the couple named their child something with “mystical” connotations. The father did express regret now that he’s not a “wook” — a slang term for hippie. He also explained that while the name is often associated with a popular series, the inspiration came from spirituality.
WHAT WAS THE NAME?
The former-hippie said that he and his partner decided to name their child together. “My hippie baby mama and I named our kid Eleven,” he said. “This was before the Stranger Things came out. We thought it was mystical, beautiful, cool, and unique — and we were annoying self-righteous hippies. “I always figured she’d want to change it but she’s in middle school now and still rocking it. “She says, ‘At least nobody forgets my name.'”
The father added that although he’s received some support for the name, he ultimately regrets it. “We were at a pool several years ago and a young man comes up to me [and] said, ‘Is your kid’s name Eleven? That’s my name.’ “He had only ever met one other in his life, he was also a child of hippies from Kentucky. “I feel bad sometimes and constantly get asked what the deal is with her name. “And a lot of people are bad at time so they’ll ask me if she is named after the show, or a lot of folks assume she adopted it after the show.”
Eleven is a fictional character from the Netflix series Stranger Things, which premiered in 2016. “Anyway it’s definitely something I regret now that I’m no longer a card carrying wook, but I also love my kid and her weird name is part of her story,” he added. “[I] won’t be mad if she starts going by Elle or something, though.”
The father also explained his reasoning for choosing Eleven — mysticism. “The number 11 is in numerology a ‘master number,’ I don’t know what that means,” he said. “In Kabbalah it symbolizes moving through the 10 Sephorah of the Tree of Life and returning to the beginning, a completed spiritual journey. “There was a bunch of stuff about 11:11 being a symbol of alignment with the galactic winds or some s***. “There’s a book about it and lots of people were talking about it in our new-age-y circles at the time. You had to be there. “Yes, great song by the Dead which just further confirmed the properness of her name for us.”
