Isha Ambani: Businesswoman, Fashion Icon, and Robotic Babies?

Isha Ambani, a renowned businesswoman and emerging fashion icon, recently sparked a social media frenzy with a photo featuring her holding not one, but two robotic babies. The image, shared by her stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania on Instagram, left many fans scratching their heads. Was this a glimpse of her twins Krishna and Aadiya, or something more artistic?

The fashion stylist shared Isha Ambani’s picture on Instagram and initially wrote, “Isha and her toy twin babies in @schiaparelli custom haute couture.”

The image’s ambiguity sparked a wave of online discussion. Many users were confused and thought these were her real twins dressed as robots, leading to a major outcry on social media.

One user wrote on Diet Sabya’s post of the image, “At first glance, I thought why are her twins dressed up like this.” Another said, “Why would you do this to your kids,” while many others said the look was going “overboard and creepy.”

After the backlash, Anaita had to clarify in the caption of the image that these were not her real twins, saying, “(these aren’t her babies, but custom couture toys ?) #robotsnotreal.”

Even though many users were left scratching their heads, industry heavyweights like Diet Sabya, and Masaba Gupta appreciated the look, along with some chronically online netizens, who had previously seen the look on the Schiaparelli runway during Paris Haute Couture Week earlier this year.

One wrote, “No kids were hurt for this look but only unaware fashion clueless individuals.” Another opined, “Looks like it’s going to Isha vs Mona (Patel) vs Natasha (Poonawalla) soon,” talking about Mona Patel’s viral Iris Van Herpen look from the Met Gala. Honestly, we couldn’t agree more.

Know all about the Schiaparelli robot babies

The truth behind the robot babies lies in the world of high fashion. The futuristic bassinets are not robotic companions, but rather a custom-made accessory by the renowned fashion house Schiaparelli.

Schiaparelli’s creative director, Daniel Roseberry, is known for pushing boundaries and creating thought-provoking designs. The robot babies are believed to be a symbolic representation of Isha’s twins, Krishna and Aadiya, reimagined through a futuristic lens.

This interpretation aligns with the overall theme of the Schiaparelli Spring 2024 collection (shown in January at the Paris Haute Couture Week), which drew inspiration from a blend of early 2000s technology and 90s nostalgia.

On the runway, a model had glided down cradling a dazzling toddler-sized figure. Crafted from a surprising mix of silver and green electronic panels, the figure gleamed with thousands of Swarovski crystals. A closer look revealed the unexpected – pearl-encrusted circuit boards and a tangle of exposed wires peeked through, creating a fascinating juxtaposition of luxury and raw technology.

While the robot babies are firmly rooted in the realm of fashion, they do raise a thought-provoking question: Is fashion firmly moving into the realm of using babies as accessories? Only time will tell.
