Nicola Coughlan’s ‘Bridgerton’ corsets whittled her waist so much, ‘trolls’ think she’s ‘Photoshopped’

This star is cinching the snappy comeback. Nicole Coughlan wears many a waist-whittling look as Penelope Featherington during Season 3 of Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” and on Tuesday, she opened up to People about accusations that her waist had been edited to look smaller on the show. “I saw some trolls. They were like, ‘They photoshopped your waist,’ and I was like, ‘No, they did not,’” the 37-year-old actress said, explaining it had to do with the historical drama’s Regency era costumes. “I think if you wear corsetry for long enough, your body really molds to it,” Coughlan said, adding that she’s become so used to wearing corsets that the tight-fitting garments have become second nature. “Sometimes they come in a fitting for a fashion designer and they put a corset on me and I’m like, ‘Oh, you can go tight,’ and they go, ‘What do you mean?’ I’m like, ‘My body now will go whew,’” she told People. The “Derry Girls” star also rocked several modern interpretations of corsets while promoting Season 3, during which she wins the heart of Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton. As for Mr. Bridgerton, he got off fairly easy with his wardrobe. “I don’t wear a corset, I don’t wear heels, but it really does change your posture, which feels good and it really helps with the character,” Newton told People, adding, “But then as soon as I’m off set, I want to be in the most comfortable outfit.” In fact, the actor got so comfortable that he lounged around naked after filming with Coughlan, who told Teen Vogue, “It is a testament to the fact that we just got to a point where we were so comfortable together.
