Actor Renauld White, who gained fame in the ’60s as one of the first Black models to reach mainstream success and who reached fame as Guiding Light‘s William Reynolds has passed away. He was 80. White’s passing was confirmed by designer Jeffrey Banks to Women’s Wear Daily. White reportedly passed away Wednesday (June 26) at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. The cause of death was not confirmed. White “was a groundbreaker,” Banks told the outlet. “There were very few Black models at the time. He really broke barriers. When they had a party for him in Newark for his 50-year anniversary in the fashion industry, he was very proud of the progress and how he opened the doors for other people.” White led a successful career in television and film. The actor famously appeared in CBS’ Guiding Light between 1986 and 1992. He also appeared in the 2014 movie Gun Hill and the 2017 horror, Central Park. According to White’s official obituary, the actor also appeared in One Life to Live, The Stepford Wives, General Hospital, and Inside Job. Ray Volant, founder of Bella Agency, praised White in a statement to CNN. “We were so honored to have represented Renauld at Bella Agency New York over the past 10 years. He will be truly missed in the fashion world but not forgotten for all the trailblazing moments he accomplished,” Volant said. “Renauld’s passion and perseverance was an inspiration for many. He helped young models find their place in the industry. He was one of a kind.” Banks also shared an emotional tribute on social media to the former actor and model. “I shall miss our talks and times together, but will always remember the barriers you broke in the fashion industry and the love you shared as a trusted friend,” he wrote. He later thanked supporters for their messages in a second post on social media. “I am sure that he would be overwhelmed by the love, support, and words of impact his life and career had on so many people,” Banks wrote. “I am reminded of the famous line from The Wizard of Oz : A heart is not judged by how much you love, but how much you are loved by others. And RENNY was indeed, truly loved.” White is survived by his brother, Colin White, his sister-in law Grace White, and his nieces and nephew.
