Alison Hammond and her beau David Putman are all smiles, with whispers of wedding bells in the air as they contemplate tying the knot. Eyebrows have been raised by some over the significant age difference between the lovebirds. The Great British Bake Off sensation Alison, 49, shares a 22-year age difference with her younger sweetheart David, 27, who is more akin in years to Alison’s 19 year old offspring Aidan. Yet, despite the years that separate them, Alison’s romance has won the seal of approval from her son, culminating in a joint red carpet appearance earlier this year. The couple made a splash alongside Aidan at an event for Jamie Laing’s confectionery venture Candy Kittens in London this past June. Family dynamics Chatting on the Parenting Hell podcast, Alison opened up about how her son has taken to her new romantic chapter. When quizzed by presenter Rob Beckett on the complexities of dating with a teen son, she admitted: “I think it’s more difficult. I think he’s more verbal now that he’s older, he will wanna to know who this person is and he’ll want to meet them..” She added, “It’s a lot harder, yeah. Because he’ll want to know that this guy is treating me well. The person that I’m seeing at the moment, he’s like on his Instagram. He’s like, ‘Yeah, I like him. I like him. He’s not too in your face.’ Do you know what I mean? Aidan’s on it.” Admitting her relief when her son gave his seal of approval for David, she said: “Normally Aidan HATES anybody I date. Literally just not interested. And you just know at that point, if Aidan doesn’t like them, this isn’t going to work.” When host Rob questioned if she sometimes felt like the child in their dynamic, Alison admitted: “Yes, definitely. There are moments and I think, ‘Who’s the parent here? ‘ You know what I mean? I do feel that sometimes. It’s nice though because it’s like I’ve got somebody always there protecting me, looking over me, and he reminds me a bit of my [late] mum in some of the things he says.” As Alison’s relationship with David blossoms further, marriage could be on the horizon following discussions of tying the knot, especially now that Alison is keen to “look her best” having shed a remarkable 11 stone. Alison has reportedly dropped weight, slimming down from 28 stone to 17 stone, boosting her health according to sources. A confidant speaking to OK! Magazine disclosed how content Alison feels lately, highlighting her thriving career and personal life. The insider shared: “Her career is going from strength to strength and she loves being on This Morning with Dermot and audiences love her and she is very in demand.” “She’s also lost quite a bit of weight and while she’s always been happy with her body no matter what size, she feels very healthy and has been working out a lot more and taking care of herself. She’s glowing! “. An insider revealed the couple has even discussed marriage, as Alison “would love” to walk down the aisle. Finding new romance Alison is said to have first encountered her new love interest when she hired him for a £150 massage, leading to a blossoming romance from what began as a friendship. The popular presenter was once married to Aidan’s dad, Noureddine Boufaied; however, their journey together culminated in divorce. Rising to prominence through Big Brother’s third series in 2002, Alison shared during an interview with The Sunday Times how she has maintained a positive co-parenting affiliation with her former spouse, likening it to “like a big family.” Yet, Alison faced inner turmoil on the breakdown of her marriage, expressing a sense of personal defeat. She candidly discussed these emotions with fellow celebrity Paloma Faithwho understood the sentiment wellreferring to the dissolution of her own partnership as her “biggest failure and probably my only regret.” Discussing Alison’s current partnership with her younger partner, insiders confided to OK! Magazine that the initial phase bore its hardships, but David helped rekindle Alison’s faith in love and men. “Add in the fact that she is very happy in her new relationship and has got Aidan’s approval and Alison couldn’t be happier. They have talked about marriage and although it’s quite soon, Alison would love to get married one day. And she wants to look her best when she does even if it’s not for a while.” Navigating an age difference The duo’s significant age difference hasn’t been easy, as they’ve had to contend with David’s mother’s disapproval among other challenges. Nonetheless, their bond has only grown stronger facing these adversities together, a source disclosed. A confidant revealed to Closer magazine: “Alison is not going to be put off her new man by anyone, including friends and especially his mother. Alison argues that David is 26 going on 45 he’s not a teenager, he’s actually mentally more mature than she is.” Furthermore, the source said: “Alison knew there would be resistance, and this is one of the reasons why they kept things under wraps in the beginning.” According to the source, while David’s mum Olga feels “uncomfortable” about her sons romance with someone possessing more financial clout, which goes against her old-fashioned beliefs, Alison remains unfazed. Speaking to Closer, the insider shared: “Olga hasn’t said anything that Alison knew wouldn’t come. Alison confided to friends that all they ask is for a blessing. She thinks she should be happy for them and for her son after all, Alison would be if the role was reversed and it was Aiden. “. An insider revealed: “Alison understands David’s mother’s perspective, but she wants her to know that there’s no need for concern they’re in love. She finds it unfortunate, but thankfully, David despite his deep affection for his mum truly loves Alison. She isn’t seeking approval, she just wishes the key people in their lives could share their joy.” Going public Alison first made waves with news of her romance with David in April, leaving fans gobsmacked during a live TV segment. On 13 September, while chatting with Paloma Faith on ‘This Morning’, Alison let slip a heartfelt confession about her own love life. Discussing the pitfalls of dating apps with Paloma, Alison enquired, “But you’ve got someone lovely in your life and you’re happy,” prompting a coy response from the singer, “I’m not commenting on that,” accompanied by a fit of giggles. With a knowing grin, Alison responded, “I just hope you have, I just want you to be happy,” while her co-host Dermot O’Leary chimed in, telling Paloma that Alison was simply “was just feeling the love,” at present. Alison then gushed: “I love love at the moment… I’ve got someone special and you’ve got someone special and you’ve got someone special,” acknowledging both Paloma and Dermot’s romantic situations. This tender exchange followed a minor mix-up earlier in the year when Alison sported a stunning pink diamond ring on her show, sparking unfounded engagement rumours after it caught the media’s eye. Alison expressed her shock on the show, saying: “Oh my God apparently I am engaged? ! ” before swiftly setting the record straight that she was not engaged. “Oh I have put this on the wrong finger… Let me swap it over to stop these rumours,” she added, switching the ring to a different finger on live television. Her partner David, who stands at an impressive 6ft 10 inches tall, hails from Russia and is a model by profession.
