Alison Hammond and her boyfriend David Putman are looking seriously loved up – with the pair reportedly discussing marriage as part of their future together. But the couple’s relationship has raised eyebrows from some, thanks to the considerable age gap between the pair. Great British Bake Off star Alison, 49, is 22 years the senior of her toyboy David, 27, with her beau being closer in age to Alison’s 19-year-old son Aidan. However, despite the age difference between the pair, Alison’s relationship got the thumbs up from her son – with all three of them making their red carpet debut together earlier this year. Alison and David stepped out alongside her son Aidan at a bash for Jamie Laing’s sweet brand Candy Kittens in London back in June. Family feelings During an appearance on the Parenting Hell podcast, Alison spoke about how her son had adapted to her new relationship status. She was asked by host Rob Beckett if that was more difficult dating with a teenage son, and said: “I think it’s more difficult. I think he’s more verbal now that he’s older, he will wanna to know who this person is and he’ll want to meet them… “It’s a lot harder, yeah. Because he’ll want to know that this guy is treating me well. The person that I’m seeing at the moment, he’s like on his Instagram. He’s like, ‘Yeah, I like him. I like him. He’s not too in your face.’ Do you know what I mean? Aidan’s on it.” Admitting she was relieved when her only child said he approved of David, she continued: “Normally Aidan HATES anybody I date. Literally just not interested. And you just know at that point, if Aidan doesn’t like them, this isn’t going to work.” Host Rob asked if it felt at times like Aidan was the parent. Alison replied: “Yes, definitely. There are moments and I think, ‘Who’s the parent here?’ You know what I mean? I do feel that sometimes. It’s nice though because it’s like I’ve got somebody always there protecting me, looking over me, and he reminds me a bit of my [late] mum in some of the things he says.” Marriage rumours With the approval of her son secured, it seems Alison and David are progressing in their relationship, and have started discussing getting married, with the TV star is determined to “look her best” after losing 11 stone. Alison recently lost significant weight dropping from 28 stone to 17 stone, which is making her feel healthier, a source said. Speaking to OK! Magazine, a source said this is “the most content” Alison has been “for a long time” as her career and personal life are both going well. The source said: “Her career is going from strength to strength and she loves being on This Morning with Dermot and audiences love her and she is very in demand. “She’s also lost quite a bit of weight and while she’s always been happy with her body no matter what size, she feels very healthy and has been working out a lot more and taking care of herself. She’s glowing!” The insider said the pair have also talked about marriage as Alison “would love” to tie the knot one day. Believing in love again It is claimed that the pair met after Alison booked him for a £150 massage and that their friendship eventually turned romantic. The TV host was previously married to Aidan’s father, Noureddine Boufaied, but their union ended in divorce. Alison, who rose to fame on the third series of Big Brother in 2002, opened up in an interview with The Sunday Times about the harmonious relationship she now shares with her ex, describing it as “like a big family.” However, she confessed to feeling like a failure after her own relationship ended. In an interview with Paloma Faith, who has faced a similar situation, Alison admitted that this was her “biggest failure and probably my only regret.” Talking about Alison’s relationship with her younger beau, the source told OK!: “They went through some tough times when they first started going out but David has made her believe in love again and has restored her faith in men. “Add in the fact that she is very happy in her new relationship and has got Aidan’s approval and Alison couldn’t be happier. They have talked about marriage and although it’s quite soon, Alison would love to get married one day. And she wants to look her best when she does even if it’s not for a while.” Age gap struggles The pair’s age gap has come with some challenges, including the disapproval of David’s mum. But they have faced every hurdle together and come out stronger, according to a source. Speaking to Closer magazine, a source said: “Alison is not going to be put off her new man by anyone, including friends and especially his mother. Alison argues that David is 26 going on 45 he’s not a teenager, he’s actually mentally more mature than she is.” The insider added: “Alison knew there would be resistance, and this is one of the reasons why they kept things under wraps in the beginning.” David’s mother Olga is reportedly “uncomfortable” with her son dating someone who holds more financial power than him, a situation that contradicts her “traditional values.” A source told Closer: “Olga hasn’t said anything that Alison knew wouldn’t come. Alison confided to friends that all they ask is for a blessing. She thinks she should be happy for them and for her son after all, Alison would be if the role was reversed and it was Aiden. ” The insider added: “Alison understands David’s mother’s perspective, but she wants her to know that there’s no need for concern they’re in love. She finds it unfortunate, but thankfully, David despite his deep affection for his mum truly loves Alison. She isn’t seeking approval, she just wishes the key people in their lives could share their joy.” Going public Alison first went public on her relationship with David back in April, surprising fans during a live TV appearance, On September 13, during an interview with Paloma Faith on This Morning, Alison shared a rare candid moment on just how happy she is in her relationship. After talking about how dating apps hadn’t worked out for Paloma, Alison asked Paloma “But you’ve got someone lovely in your life and you’re happy,” to which the singer replied, “I’m not commenting on that,” whilst she burst out in laughter. Alison simply smiled and said “I just hope you have, I just want you to be happy,” and her co-star Dermot O’Leary told Paloma that Alison “was just feeling the love,” at the moment. To which Alison replied: “I love love at the moment… I’ve got someone special and you’ve got someone special and you’ve got someone special,” she said nodding to both Paloma and Dermot. This sweet moment came after a small misunderstanding earlier in the year where, after wearing a glamorous pink diamond ring on her ring finger during the show, Alison noticed headlines claiming she was engaged. “Oh my God apparently I am engaged?!” she exclaimed on the show and immediately clarified that she was absolutely not engaged, “Oh I have put this on the wrong finger… Let me swap it over to stop these rumours,” Alison said on screen whilst swapping the ring over. David, who measures in at a dizzying height of 6ft 10 inches, is originally from Russia and works as a model.
