A school crossing guard has been accused of supplying drugs to middle school students in Pennsylvania and allegedly smoking cannabis with at least one of them. Kiara Lee, 26, was arrested on Tuesday in Delaware County after she was alleged to have given the children e-cigarettes and cannabis edibles. The crossing guard for Penn Wood Middle School in Darby, Pennsylvania, was reportedly seen by a student witness distributing drugs and vapes to at least two students on multiple occasions. The student witness reported Lee to school officials after one of the students revealed they were regularly smoking cannabis with her. According to WCAU, she had repeatedly provided vapes to the juvenile, who was known to possess marijuana. One student told WTXF: “We walk past every day, so a lot of students see her passing it around and they would say, ‘Oh, let me hit the vape, let me hit the vape’.” In addition to the inappropriate “gift”-giving, Lee is said to have maintained a text conversation with one of the students, where they would discuss their experiences after consuming the edibles. Law enforcement officials condemned Lee’s behaviour, stating it was unacceptable for anyone, particularly school crossing guards, to be supplying drugs to minors. They are – quite literally – entrusted with the lives of our children and hold a position of sacred trust in communities across the Commonwealth and the country. For an individual to abuse that trust is deeply disturbing, and corrosive to the well-being of the entire community.” A parent, Maya Bryant, told Fox 29: “It’s already bad enough as a parent, keeping them away from influences, but to hear that an employee of the borough would even sell to kids. It’s insane.” Another parent, Malekka Dade, added: “It’s a shame to have these people on these corners to do their job, to protect children, and now you’re telling me the kids are receiving drugs from them? It’s utterly disgusting.” Lee faces two felony counts of drug possession with intent to deliver, two misdemeanour counts of corruption of a minor and two misdemeanour counts of possession of marijuana, according to court records viewed by the New York Post. Unable to post her $20,000 (£15,600) bail, she remains in the Delaware County jail and is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 14.
