Luke Shaw has made England’s squad for Euro 2024 (Photo: Getty) Gareth Southgate has admitted Luke Shaw’s inclusion in England’s final Euro 2024 squad is a ‘calculated risk’. The Three Lions boss named his 26-man squad that will travel to Germany on Thursday, with Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Harry Maguire among the unlucky seven to miss out. Shaw has made the cut despite having not played since February due to a hamstring injury, with the Manchester United defender still not back in full-training. As the only natural left-back in the squad, Southgate was desperate to take him and has revealed when we can expect to see the 28-year-old back on the pitch. ‘It’s a calculated risk. He’s progressed really well in the last couple of weeks,’ he said in a press conference. ‘At the moment we think he could have some involvement in the second group game but you have to keep hitting the markers. ‘But he’s had a good volume of work, operating at good speeds, so yeah, I think you can take one gamble and that’s a gamble, we’ve got enough evidence to believe it can pay off. England’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2024 Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) Defenders: Lewis Dunk (Brighton), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Luke Shaw (Man Utd), John Stones (Man City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Kyle Walker (Man City) Midfielders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Kobbie Mainoo (Man Utd), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) Forwards: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Phil Foden (Man City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Brentford), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) ‘And positionally, with what he brings with his experience, the fact that he’s a left-footer who can drive forward that’s a situation we wanted to explore.’ More to follow… For more stories like this, check our sport page.
