PESHAWAR, Aug 19: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Fuad Ishaq emphasized the need for effective utilization of natural resources to foster economic prosperity and development in the province. Speaking at an executive meeting of the Pakistan Sports Writers Association Federation held at the Chamber House, Fuad highlighted the abundance of natural resources such as hydropower, gas, oil, and marble in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stressed that these resources must be tapped effectively to ensure economic stability and progress, ultimately transforming the destiny of the province’s people. The SCCI chief noted that the business community is facing significant challenges due to the imposition of additional taxes and anti-trader policies. As a result, industry, business, and trade activities have slowed down considerably. The meeting was attended by office bearers of the Pakistan Sports Writers Federation from Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad. Fuad urged the government and relevant authorities to reconsider these policies and make them more business- and trade-friendly. He pointed out that through trade and economic activities, businessmen could support healthy sports initiatives and athletes, thereby boosting economic and trade activities not only in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also across the rest of the country, leading to prosperity for the people. The SCCI president acknowledged the pivotal role the business community has played in the promotion and development of sports. He referred to sportsmen as national assets, expressing pride in the fact that these national heroes help promote a positive image of Pakistan globally. Fuad also recognized the significance of sports journalists, stating that they play a proactive role in increasing the popularity of sports and athletes. He praised their contribution to the promotion of sports. On this occasion, Fuad mentioned Arshad Nadeem, who won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics and set a new record in Olympic history. He described Nadeem’s success as a revitalizing moment for Pakistan’s sports and athletes. Earlier, while welcoming the office bearers of the Sports Writers Federation to the hospitable land of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fuad Ishaq proudly noted that Peshawar’s Nahwa Kallay has produced seven world champions, an achievement unmatched in any other part of the world.
