The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Habu Gumel, said the forthcoming Olympics scheduled to be held in Paris have achieved full gender parity. Delivering a keynote address at the Olympics Run Day 2024 in Jalingo, Taraba State on Saturday, he emphasized the unifying nature of the forthcoming Games, which, according to him, have succeeded in bringing people together in peace and solidarity. Represented by Jesse Galadima, Gumel held that the reason behind the forthcoming event is to bring people of different backgrounds together. “The essence of the forthcoming event is not only to motivate us to stay active and healthy, but to also foster friendships and a sense of community, transcending geographical boundaries and different ways of engaging in sports,” Gumel stated. Gumel also assured that the country’s representatives would make Nigerians proud. Reiterating committee’s confidence in the Nigerian contingent, he opined that the athletes would inspire the country and admirers spread across the globe. Aligning his weight to that of the NOC chairman, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Joseph Joshua, said the Olympic Day Run is more than just a race.
