Pat McAfee is known for his unapologetic way of saying whatever he wants. But it might be the naysayers who doubted his skills on a soccer field after the “assist of a lifetime” he delivered in Group play of The Soccer Tournament on Wednesday. Also known as TST, McAfee has entered a team into the pool of 48 clubs featuring former professional soccer athletes, ex-college players and other stars vying for a $1 million purse in the winner-take-all tournament, currrently taking place at the Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. McAfee was in second round group play action with his team, known as Concafa FC, a play on the time McAfee had French soccer legend Thierry Henry on his podcast and bungled the pronunciation of Concacaf, the federation for North American soccer. Here’s what he said then… Okay, so with that in mind of McAfee’s knowledge of the beautiful game, playing on the outside, he took a pass and delivered a one-time cross into the 18-yard-box of Nati SC, a team led by former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco. The ball was perfectly played into the onrushing run of Mike Grella, currently an analyst on CBS Sports’ Golazo show, finding Grella smashing a golazo of his own, scissor-kicking McAfee’s lofted cross into the goal. “Me and Grella haven’t done that in 20 years,” McAfee told TST in-game announcers from the sidelines. He noted that he and Grella used to club teammates that played elite level soccer as youngsters. “He [Grella] was one of the chosen ones as a kid, I knew how great he was and it was my job just to set him up and I had a blast doing it.”
