A joint Fulani groups under the auspices of Fulbe Development and Cultural Organisation (FUDECO) have asked Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state to create the replica of Ministry of Livestock Development in the state to minimize the farmers/herders conflict.
The Speaker, Yobe State House of Assembly, Buba Chiroma-Mashio and Chairman of (FUDECO) in the state, Aliyu Usman Jejere, disclosed this at an event to celebrate first of its kind, United Nations International Day of Indigenous People in Damaturu the state capital.
Chiroma-Mashio who represented Governor Mai Mala Buni explained, lack of western and Islamic Education has forced Fulani children to be wayward, which is unethical to the culture and it’s practice.
“The lack of enough grazing reserves, encroachment of farmlands as well as cattle routes have resulted to farmers/herders clash that was the government of Mai Mala Buni embarked on the construction of Nazari grazing reserve and the one in Fika in the state”
“Because of the regular movement of the herders, many of their children are out of school, they need to be sensitized on the need for them to be enrolled into Nomadic schools” he said.
In his part, the Chairman of the occasion who doubles as the Commissioner of Higher Education and Technology in the state, Professor Bello Kawuwa, says it’s time to unite for the progress of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
He revealed the exemplary leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni has continued to bring the Fulani groups and other ethnic groups to live in harmony, saying no development can be achieved without unity.
