Moses Korede Are, also known as “Baba Gbenro” from the iconic Mount Zion series Abattoir, has died, leaving the Nigerian gospel cinema industry in sadness.
Oluwaseun Adejumobi, the actor’s colleague, confirmed his death on Thursday via his verified Instagram account.
Adejumobi wrote, “Heaven’s Gain Again. A General Has Gone to Rest.”
Another tribute came from gospel actor Zoe Adeola, who posted on X, “Rest in peace, Baba Gbenro. Your role in Abattoir will definitely leave a great memory of you in our minds. So painful.”
Michael Adelakun, a colleague and founder of Paramount Ministry, revealed to PUNCH Online, “He is dead. Baba has been battling with diabetes for a while now.”
However, as of press time, Adelakun was unable to confirm the cause of his death.
Korede Are, fondly known as Baba Gbenro, was born on June 11, 1959.
Before relocating to southwestern Nigeria for further schooling, he studied in Plateau State after receiving some of his early education while growing up in Kano State, Nigeria.

Following his academic pursuits, he completed his National Youth Service Corps program in Jigawa State.
Baba Gbenro founded Calvary Movies Drama Ministry in Ogbomoso, Nigeria, on September 2, 1995, and served as its International President.
Through this ministry, he employed theatre evangelism to spread the word.
He also worked as the CEO of Calvary Movies Television, an online Christian streaming service focused on drama and evangelism.
Throughout his career, he worked with other prominent individuals in the gospel cinema industry, such as Toluwalope Israel Adegbo and Evangelist Damilola Mike-Bamiloye.
His involvement in the television series Abattoir solidified his name in gospel drama, where he was widely known as “Baba Gbenro.”
